Not sure if your pet is really having an emergency? Look for these signs. Slide 1 Wheezing or panting heavily Your pet could be having trouble breathing, or they might be experiencing a heart condition. The only way to know for sure is to contact our emergency vets. MORE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS Slide 5 Heatstroke Heatstroke is often characterized by heavy panting, drooling, and fever. Don’t attempt to cool your pet down yourself or give them ice-cold watercall us immediately. MORE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS Slide 5 Snake bite Trembling, muscle twitching, weakness in the hind legs, and heavy salivation are all signs commonly associated with a snake bite. MORE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS Slide 2 Hard, bloated stomach A hard, distended abdomen could be a sign of gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV). Typically known as bloat, this is a life-threatening condition where the stomach fills up with gas or fluid and becomes twisted. MORE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS Slide 3 Vomiting repeatedly Your pet may have ingested something highly toxic, or they swallowed a foreign object they can’t digest. Excessive vomiting can quickly dehydrate your pet, so don’t hesitate to call us. He practiced small animal general practice and emergency medicine in Las Vegas, Nevada before relocating to Atlanta. He attended Tuskegee University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in animal science, and in 2017 received his DVM from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. After vet school he completed a small animal rotating internship at IndyVet Emergency and Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis, IN followed by an avian/exotic specialty internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, TX. After earning her DVM from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2019, she began a one-year internship at a veterinary referral and emergency hospital in Texas. Following two successful years working at an animal hospital in Chicago, he and his family moved to Decatur in 2010 so that his wife Sarah could pursue her career at Emory University. Dr. Calcutt has travelled extensively enjoying many aspects of veterinary medicine - from darting lions in Uganda, to rehabilitating orangutans in Borneo.
